We made a quick stop to Portland to visit Patty’s niece and family. We were treated to many great tasting restaurants; NE Portland’s historic Elementary Kennedy School in the McMenamins Cypress Room, SW Portland Bamboo Sushi, Pearl District Deschutes Brewery and NW Portland Andina Peruvian Restaurant.
Steve and I explored the Pittock Mansion a French Renaissance-style château in the West Hills of Portland, Oregon. The mansion was originally built in 1909 as a private home for London-born Oregonian publisher Henry Pittock and his wife, Georgiana. It is a 46-room estate built of Tenino Sandstone situated on 46 acres. We had a nice hike in the wooded trails around the mansion.
We met my old friends from my beginning days in San Francisco, Patti Sue and Gary LeGendre at their elegant home located in the SW hills of Portland. The home was completed in 2010 containing a 40-foot high Italian marble stairwell, 12-foot ceilings, black walnut flooring, black and white Italian marble kitchen cabinets. They had just sold their home that day. We look forward to seeing their next project.
OREGON COAST: ASTORIA, SEASIDE, CANNON BEACH, ROCKAWAY BEACH, AND TILLAMOOK:
We tried our best to catch crabs for our dinner at the Rockaway Jetty Marina. We didn’t get any keepers in our nets but watched fellows on the pier reeling in about 12 crabs. They didn’t seem to want to share with us! The weather was a bit windy, cloudy and rainy on the coast. We were ready to travel inland to warmer weather.
