ALAMOGORDO, NEW MEXICO WHITE SANDS NATIONAL PARK MARCH, 2015

ALAMOGORDO, NEW MEXICO:

It must be a marketing joke to include the southern section of New Mexico under the slogan, Land of Enchantment. More desert, more flat land, more blowing dirt, more cactus. The Boot Hill RV Park was on Dog Ranch Road in the middle of nowhere.

We went on a sunset ranger hike at the White Sands National Park. It was interesting, the white sand is really white gypsum powder covering 275 square miles of rolling dunes, home of white wood rats, white lizards and soaptree yucca plants. Access to the park is very limited since the rest of the area is a weapons and missile testing range including the detonation of the first atomic bomb.
